Optimum (re)use of materials with the goal of 100% circularity
The New Materials and their Application research group conducts research into ways we can optimise the use of materials for buildings, infrastructure, machines and products, with the aim of making society more sustainable. There are all kinds of different possible solutions; using less and/or different materials, increasing their lifespan or improving options for recycling, repair and reuse. The research group has three programme lines, within which it conducts different research projects. The ultimate goal is complete reuse of raw materials and maximum circularity.
The programme lines of the research group align with the relevant study programmes at Avans. They are:
• Circular design;
• Implementation of new materials and production methods;
• Smart materials and active disassembly.
