Working on an integrated response to an increasing digital threat

Safeguarding digital security is becoming ever more important for organisations; after all, cyber incidents have the potential to cause significant damage. The Cyber-Resilient Organisations research group works with educational institutions, government agencies and businesses to investigate how organisations can most effectively arm themselves against these threats. Preventing, limiting and recovering from incidents calls for a broad perspective, as cyber resilience requires more than just technical solutions. Operational processes and people are also major factors determining the level of security.

A cyber incident is an unwanted, unexpected event that impacts the availability, integrity or confidentiality of networks, computer systems or data. For example, an (unintended) data breach in a software system, resulting in sensitive company information becoming public. Or a targeted ransomware attack by criminals who disable a company network until a ransom is paid. Cybercrime is booming; recent research shows that 48% of all organisations have experienced it in the past three years.
